The difference between email and IM is that instant messaging is real time, as the name suggests it is instant so you can talk and reply to each other within seconds of sending your message.













Email isn't real time, so can take some time (although usually very quickly) to reach the recipient. It is a more formal recorded way of communicating between two or more parties.
